It’s that time of year, when all around the country, parents are getting anxious about sending their children to school for the first time.
But, it’s not just the parents who will be feeling anxious. It could be the first time that the child has waved goodbye to their parents and left them for a full day.
Mostly it’s the fear of the unknown. Parents will be worrying and asking themselves questions: Will my child be ok? Will they make friends? Will they have enough to eat? What happens if they need the toilet?
For the children it probably won’t be as complex as that as they wont have many experiences to gauge starting school against. For them, it’s just an unknown.
There’s a number of things, we, as parents can do to help with the transition to school. Explaining what to expect plays a huge part. With that in mind we have created the “Starting Kindergarten” e-book which will show your children what will happen in the lead up to their first day, plus what to expect when school starts.
One thing to remember is that us parents will more often than not be just as anxious as our children on the first day, but we have to manage our feelings in front of our children. Give them a big hug and send them off with a smile.
